The University of Chicago Alumni Association, in conjunction with Argonne National
Laboratory and the Harris Energy Policy Institute is organizing a live discussion and simultaneous
webcast that will explore the impact of nuclear energy, now and in the future. Mark
Peters,
deputy laboratory director for programs at Argonne National Laboratory, will be the moderator
and Hussein Khalil, director of Argonne’s
Nuclear Engineering Division, will
be one of three panelists.
The 90-minute discussion “Beyond Fukushima: The Risks, Realities & Future of Nuclear Energy in the U.S.” will explore the topic from a variety of perspectives, including climate and ecology, economics, history, policy, safety, and science and technology.
The event will take place at 4 pm on April 21, 2011, in the atrium of the University's Gordon Center for Integrative Sciences, 929 E. 57th Street. The discussions will be open to the public; for those who cannot attend in person, the event will be webcast through the University's website and Facebook page. Immediately following the event, there will be a poster session, in which some of the leading scientists from Argonne will display recent work on nuclear energy.
The University is going to stream the event live. For those who cannot attend or follow the streaming live there will be a recording of the event available for some time at the University web site.
